Today’s electrical engineers and system designers are obligated to consider methods to improve the safety of their designs. The safety and operation of the power distribution systems they are proposing, whether from a design perspective, or a sales position. The primary consideration should be the safety of their equipment for electricians, operators, technicians as well as maintenance personnel to ensure the element of safety is embedded in the electrical equipment. Per the “Hierarchy of Hazard Control Methods”, described in NFPA 70E and ANSI Z10 described below.
The Hierarchy divides the methods into 6 categories shown in the order of most effective to least effective.
1. Elimination
2. Substitution
3. Engineered Controls
4. Awareness
5. Administrative Controls
6. Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)
The Arc Safe Electrical Testing System Eliminates the Hazards to electricians, technicians, and maintenance workers of an Arc Flash, or Arc Blast while performing standardized testing for the start-up of electrical equipment as required by commissioning agencies by reducing the incident energy from the most dangerous electrical equipment that produces +200 (CAL/cm2) to less than 0.50 (CAL/cm2). In addition, the Arc Safe Electrical Testing System is designed to use with all protective covers and barriers in place, with the electrician/technician adjacent to and out of the hazardous Arc Flash boundary. It is by far the safest method of performing energized electrical testing for the start-up and commissioning of electrical systems. The Arc Safe Electrical Testing System is as safe as a standard plug tester to use, and we are confident it will be accepted as the first means to perform the required “Live Dead, Live Dead” testing for a shutdown. Once UL Certified & listed, The Arc Safe Electrical Testing System will add value to the entire electrical system and will pay for itself by more than 10x during the initial start-up and commissioning and will continue to save thousands of dollars for the annual NETA/MTS required maintenance, as well as anytime modifications or testing is required.
